Responses to Common Submissions
Many companies are moving toward a model in which evaluations are completed by managers and their employees. For example, in addition to traditional reviews, the manager would receive feedback on his or her performance from the people who report to him or her. Has Rigby/Harcourt ever considered a model of this sort?

How are we doing in sales this year? Will a chart showing our sales be posted so we can see how we are doing in the bonus plan? Usually there is a chart in the lunchroom and the copier room.

Now that employees must use an expense report form for all reimbursement, it is possible to find a way to expand that form to include more than one week? When there are a number of small items, it doesn't "pay" to fill out a whole, 2-page form for a $6.00 cab ride and a $5.00 train ticket for one week and then another for a $25.00 book purchase the following week. Could such incidental expenses be grouped on one type of report?

Would it be possible to get a full length mirror in the women's restroom by the receptionist desk? They have one in the 2nd floor restroom and it helps when checking to make sure everything is tucked in.

With so many new faces wandering about the cabin, it would be helpful to have a "New Folks" section that would list--perhaps monthly--a photo of newcomers with a caption stating their job and department. Then we could match that to the email announcement and recognize them as they come through.

It would be helpful if we could work together more as a team within our departments and with other departments. People are getting very territorial with company printers, projects, paper, etc. Have you thought of offering team building seminars so we start to see others as part of our team - not as adversaries.

I understand that we will have assigned seating at the company holiday luncheon. At a social event, I would think the seating arrangements would be left up to us. With assigned seating, it makes it feel more like a company meeting.

Rigby's Holiday Gathering: Why don't we have the opportunity to bring our spouse & gather for a holiday party, as we once did? I know that we enjoy working at Rigby & would like the chance to show our spouse's who we work with everyday. Just wondering.

If this suggestion could be posted to raise awareness and make the simple request that coworkers please refrain from wearing fragrances in the workplace, it would be greatly appreciated. Many people are unaware that the scents they wear create adverse physical reactions in some people in the workplace.

Rigby has a generous program whereby employees may take two half days a year to participate in a community service type activity. How about a section where people could report on what they have done with that time--or what they have done in that vein on their own time? (It would also be a convenient reminder that we have those days to use.) For example, Robert McCreight recently completed the annual AIDS benefit ride--a 540-mile ride from St. Paul to Chicago.

Hi, just an idea: We have some very cool give-aways at Rigby like the backpacks, hats, coffee mugs, denim shirts, etc. I realize there is a surprise factor to most of these. If there was an advance notice for employees to purchase extra items it could get your overall unit costs down. I'm sure other employees would be interested and perhaps Rigby could offer pieces to employees at the cost amount vs. retail.

Any chance of getting new healthcare providers? A lot of doctors are not taking either of the two offered to us (Aetna or United Healthcare). This makes it very hard to find or choose doctors or use the current ones we have.
